SARATOK – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Saratok successfully captured a batik python during an operation at the J&T courier premises on Saturday morning, 18 April 2026.
The incident began when members of the public alerted the district operations centre to the presence of the reptile.
Responding swiftly, three personnel from My-Aspa Squad 02 were deployed to the location. Equipped with appropriate tools, the team carried out the capture without incident.
The python, estimated to be around three feet in length, was restrained safely and removed from the premises.
Authorities confirmed that the operation was completed smoothly, with no harm caused to either the animal or the public.
Officials have reminded residents to remain cautious when encountering snakes or other potentially dangerous wildlife.
While pythons are not venomous, their presence in populated areas can cause alarm and pose risks to pets or livestock.
The Civil Defence Force emphasised that members of the public should avoid attempting to handle such animals themselves and instead contact trained personnel for assistance.
Wildlife sightings in Sarawak’s towns and villages are not unusual, particularly as development expands into areas close to natural habitats.
Snakes, including batik pythons, are often drawn to human settlements in search of food or shelter.
Civil Defence teams across the state continue to respond to similar cases, balancing public safety with conservation efforts.
The successful operation in Saratok highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of emergency services in managing unexpected encounters with wildlife.
Residents are encouraged to report sightings promptly to ensure rapid intervention and minimise risks.
The APM Saratok District Operations Centre remains available for emergency calls and can be reached at 084-832208.
