SPAOH – A routine morning in Spaoh turned tense on 22 June 2026 when a snake was spotted near a public futsal court.
The discovery was made by Mrs Norhayati, who immediately alerted the Civil Defence Force (APM) Spaoh at 8.00 am.
Responding swiftly, three members of the Charlie Squad were dispatched to the site. Using the pincer technique, the team successfully captured a python measuring approximately 0.6 metres, or two feet, in length.
The operation was completed without incident, and the reptile was secured safely. The python was later transported to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) for further handling.
Officials confirmed that no injuries or property damage occurred during the intervention, and the situation was brought under control quickly.
APM Spaoh commended Mrs Norhayati for her prompt action, noting that her vigilance helped prevent potential risks to the public.
The squad emphasised the importance of community cooperation in reporting wildlife encounters, particularly in areas frequented by residents.
Authorities reminded the public not to attempt capturing snakes or other dangerous animals themselves. Such actions can lead to serious injury, especially when dealing with venomous species or larger reptiles.
Instead, residents are urged to contact emergency services immediately to ensure professional handling of the situation.
The Civil Defence Force reiterated its guiding principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”, highlighting its commitment to safeguarding communities across Sarawak.
By maintaining readiness and efficiency, APM teams continue to reassure residents that public safety remains their top priority.
Community members in Spaoh and surrounding areas are encouraged to remain vigilant and report hazardous situations promptly. For emergencies, residents can contact APM Spaoh directly at 083-473006 or dial 999.
This latest incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by communities living close to natural habitats, where encounters with snakes are more frequent.
The swift response by APM Spaoh reassured residents and demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated emergency action in Sarawak.
