TANJUNG MANIS – Members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Tanjung Manis branch successfully captured a python measuring approximately 2.5 metres in length at N24 Perumahan Pusaka early this morning.
The incident was reported at 7:05 am when an emergency call alerted authorities to the presence of the reptile inside a chicken cage belonging to a local resident.
Within five minutes, three APM personnel from the Tanjung Manis District arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the python coiled inside the cage. Using standard procedures, the team managed to secure the animal by pinning and snaring it, ensuring the safety of both the residents and the livestock.
The swift response demonstrated the readiness of APM officers in handling wildlife-related emergencies in residential areas. Their actions prevented potential harm to the chickens and avoided risks to the community.
Python sightings are not uncommon in rural and semi-rural parts of Sarawak, where the reptiles often venture into populated areas in search of food.
Authorities have reminded residents to remain vigilant and to report such encounters immediately to ensure safe handling by trained personnel.
The captured snake has since been removed from the premises, and no injuries were reported during the operation.
