Asajaya Brush Fire: BOMBA Extinguish 2-Acre Fire in Kampung Moyan Ulu

ASAJAYA – A bush fire that ignited at Jalan Kampung Moyan Ulu on Monday afternoon was successfully brought under control and extinguished by firefighters from the Asajaya Fire and Rescue Station.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which scorched an estimated two acres of dry vegetation.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received the emergency call on 10 August 2026 and immediately dispatched a response team to the scene.

A total of seven firefighters were deployed, travelling in two separate vehicles.

The primary firefighting unit was a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) Atego bearing registration number BJU 5996.

Accompanying it was a Navara utility vehicle, registration WWD 8905, used to carry additional personnel and equipment.

Operations Commander PBK I Abg Othman bin Abg Sharbini led the entire effort.

The LFRT crew consisted of driver PBK II Ambron Lawai Ak. Dolly, with operations members PBB Mohd Faizal bin Ghazali, PBB Muhamad Salihin bin Jaik, and PBB Fattol Lilah bin Daut.

The Navara team included driver PBK II Sajali bin HJ Apet and operations member PBB Shemmidan bin Mohamad.

Upon arrival, the firefighters set up an open water drafting operation using a Godiva pump.

They deployed a single hose line stretching 300 feet and operated two nozzles to attack the advancing flames.

The fire, which had rapidly consumed parched undergrowth across a two-acre area, was successfully knocked down by the team.

Once the flames were completely extinguished, crews conducted a thorough secondary inspection of the burn site.

They searched for any hidden hotspots and confirmed there was no risk of the fire rekindling.

With the situation deemed safe, all personnel packed up their equipment and returned to the station.

In a brief message after the operation, the station’s Bravo Team shared a familiar note, saying, “Greetings Civilized Malaysia.”

The phrase has become a signature sign-off for the unit, reflecting its community-focused spirit.

Monday’s blaze underscores the persistent risk of vegetation fires across the Asajaya district during dry spells.

Characterised by a mix of farmland, scrubland and rural settlements, the area east of Kuching is particularly vulnerable when grass and undergrowth become tinder-dry.

Fire authorities continue to urge the public to avoid open burning without permits and to maintain clear firebreaks around properties.

Residents who spot any sign of a bush or grass fire are advised to call the 999 emergency line immediately and to take safe, measured action only if they are not putting themselves at risk.

Thanks to the rapid and organised response of the BBP Asajaya crew, the flames on Monday did not spread to nearby homes or cultivated plots.

The department remains on round-the-clock standby to respond to fires, rescue operations and other emergencies across the district.
