KUCHING – The Lundu District Office has confirmed that the Batang Kayan Regatta will take place from 25 to 27 September 2026 at Lundu Town Square.
Preparations for the event are underway, with the second coordination meeting held on 16 April 2026 at the Lundu District Office. The meeting was chaired by District Officer Mr Zulkarnain Ismail.
The regatta, a traditional boat racing competition, will serve as the main attraction across the three-day programme.
To further enliven the event, organisers have planned a variety of side activities, including the Strongmen Open Competition, Gading Run, melastik contest, archery, volleyball matches, cultural exhibitions, and a sales carnival.
Officials emphasised that the regatta is not only a sporting event but also a cultural and tourism highlight for Lundu.
By involving the local community and attracting visitors from outside the district, the regatta is expected to generate economic activity through sales and exhibitions while strengthening community unity.
The Batang Kayan Regatta has long been recognised as a platform for showcasing Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage and sporting spirit.
Its combination of competitive racing and cultural festivities makes it a unique attraction that draws both participants and spectators.
Organisers noted that the regatta will also contribute to promoting Lundu as a tourism destination. With its scenic riverside setting and vibrant community, the town is well-positioned to host events that highlight Sarawak’s traditions while supporting local businesses.
The coordination meeting focused on ensuring smooth preparations, with discussions covering logistics, safety measures, and community involvement.
Stakeholders expressed confidence that the regatta will be successfully delivered, offering both entertainment and cultural enrichment.
By blending sport, culture, and commerce, the Batang Kayan Regatta continues to play an important role in fostering unity and showcasing Sarawak’s diverse traditions.
The September event is expected to attract strong participation and provide memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.
