KUCHING (Nov 19): Independent Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How’s political future has become the talk of the town, following his appearance at a high-profile meeting involving Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) leaders and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The meeting, held at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex, saw the attendance of SUPP president and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, along with other top SUPP leaders, including deputy president Datuk Richard Riot Jaem, secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, and other assemblymen. Notably, See was the only non-SUPP member present.
A group photograph featuring See with the Premier and SUPP leaders has added fuel to speculation about his potential move to join the party. The photo, shared by Dr Sim and other SUPP representatives on Facebook, was accompanied by descriptions of discussions on Sarawak’s development roadmap but provided no clarity on See’s political intentions.
SUPP Kota Sentosa’s Facebook page described the meeting as “inspiring guidance” from the Premier for SUPP lawmakers. Another image showed See engaged in discussions with prominent SUPP leaders, further stoking rumors about his political realignment.
Despite the buzz, See has not confirmed if he will align with SUPP or continue as an independent until the next state election due by April 2027.
See, previously with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), left the party in August 2022. PSB was dissolved earlier this year in March, leaving his political affiliations open-ended. During the 2021 state election, See narrowly defended his Batu Lintang seat against SUPP’s Sih Hua Tong, winning by just 93 votes.
The speculation around See’s next political move is bound to grow, as he remains a significant figure in Sarawak’s political landscape.
