New BEKR Homes Handed Over to Tembawai Kapok Residents in Saratok

SARATOK – Residents of Tembawai Kapok in Awik, Saratok, have received new homes under the Home Fire Assistance Programme (BEKR), following the destruction of their longhouse in a fire incident in 2021.

The handover ceremony was officiated by State Assemblyman for N.39 Krian, Friday Anak Belik, who presented the houses to Tr. Son of Sandom and the affected families.

The original longhouse, which comprised 20 doors, was completely destroyed in the blaze, leaving many residents displaced.

In response, the Sarawak Government, through the State Disaster Management Committee, approved financial assistance to rebuild homes for those impacted.

The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to supporting communities affected by disasters and ensuring they are provided with safe and secure housing.

The ceremony was attended by Saratok District Officer Muhammad Dino bin Amid, officials from the Saratok District Office, Saratok District JKR District Engineer Sandra Anak Luna, and other representatives from JKR Sarawak. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort between government agencies in delivering the project.
