BETONG, 26 May 2025 – Five people were hurt in a three-vehicle road accident that happened this afternoon on Jalan Serudit, near Betong.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre, the emergency call was received at around 3.01pm. In response, a team of nine firefighters from the Betong Fire and Rescue Station, led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohamad Hassim Borhan, was quickly dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, they discovered that the accident involved three Perodua Axia cars with three victims, a Toyota Hilux with one victim, and a 3-ton Hino lorry driven by one man.
Initial findings revealed that both the Hilux and the lorry were parked on the roadside at the time of the accident. The lorry belonged to a team repairing the road, while the Hilux was used by workers maintaining the repair equipment.
Three of the injured were passengers in the Perodua Axia. The Fire and Rescue Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) team provided them with immediate medical assistance before sending them to Betong Hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Hilux occupant did not suffer any injuries. However, one road worker, who was carrying out repairs at the time, sustained minor injuries and was sent to Betong Hospital by his colleague before the fire department arrived.
JBPM confirmed that the rescue operation concluded at 3.42pm. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident. Motorists using Jalan Serudit are urged to drive with caution, especially in areas where road works are ongoing.
Let this serve as a reminder for all drivers to always stay alert and reduce speed near construction zones.
