BINTULU – About 200 people took part in a community clean-up programme at Kampung Baru, Bintulu, on 26 September 2026 as part of Malaysia Clean-up Day 2026 activities for the Bintulu Division.
The programme was organised by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) in collaboration with the Bintulu Division Health Office, bringing together local residents, government agencies and other stakeholders for a community-based cleanup.
The event was attended by Mr Iskandar Haji Turkee, assemblyman for N67 Jepak, as the guest of honour.
Participants worked together to clean areas around the village as part of activities held in conjunction with the national Malaysia Clean-up Day programme.
Beyond the physical cleanup, the programme was intended to encourage the practice of gotong-royong, or community cooperation, while raising awareness of responsible waste management.
Organisers also used the programme to promote waste segregation and recycling among members of the public.
The involvement of residents and representatives from various agencies provided an opportunity for different groups to work together on activities related to environmental cleanliness.
The Bintulu programme formed part of Malaysia Clean-up Day 2026, which was conducted nationwide with a national participation target of 200,000 people.
Participation in the Kampung Baru activity contributed to that wider target and reflected the involvement of communities at the local level.
The organisers said maintaining cleanliness should not be viewed as a one-day activity, but as an ongoing responsibility involving residents, organisations and relevant agencies.
Waste management and proper disposal are among the areas highlighted through the programme, with participants encouraged to apply responsible practices in their daily activities.
The emphasis on segregation and recycling also provided a practical component to the event, alongside the physical work of cleaning the surrounding area.
Community cleanup programmes can provide opportunities for residents to work collectively while increasing awareness of environmental issues that affect shared spaces.
