KUALA SELANGOR, April 30 — After three days of hope and anxious waiting, a tragic end came to the search for a 10-year-old boy, Khairil Izani Khaizalullinudin, whose body was discovered earlier today along a riverbank in Sungai Buloh. The heartbreaking discovery has brought sorrow to the family and the local community, who had been closely following the search efforts since the boy was reported missing.
According to authorities, the victim is believed to have been swept away by a strong current after falling into a drain in Bandar Puncak Alam on Tuesday. The incident quickly triggered a large-scale search and rescue operation involving personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, along with volunteer firefighters.
Samsol Maarif Saibani, Head of Zone 7 North Selangor for the Fire and Rescue Department, confirmed that the boy’s body was found at around 1 pm on Thursday. He said the discovery was made by members of the Pasukan Penyelamat Di Air (PPDA) together with the Saujana Utama Volunteer Fire Department team during an active search operation.
“The search began from the drainage area near Taman Alam Jaya Mosque before extending approximately five kilometres towards the river. The body was eventually found in Sungai Buloh, in the direction of Ijok,” he said when met at the operation site.
Authorities estimated that the total distance from the point where the victim was believed to have fallen to the location where his body was found was about 10 kilometres. The boy was discovered fully clothed, wearing a light-coloured shirt and black trousers, which helped in identifying him.
The body has since been sent to the forensic unit at UiTM Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police have taken over the case for further investigation, although no foul play is currently suspected.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by strong water currents, especially during unpredictable weather conditions. Local residents have expressed their condolences to the grieving family, as the community comes to terms with the loss of a young life.
In times like these, the role of emergency responders and volunteers remains vital, as they continue to carry out challenging operations under difficult circumstances. The tragic outcome underscores the importance of vigilance and safety awareness, particularly among children near water sources.
