KUCHING – A Civil Servant Protocol and Etiquette Workshop was successfully held today at the Sultan Iskandar Building, organised by the Sarawak Federal Secretary’s Office (PSUPS) in collaboration with the Aminuddin Baki Institute Sarawak Branch.
The workshop, conducted on 18 May 2026, took place at the 17th-floor auditorium and was led by Dr Suffian bin Haji Jalet, Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak Art Council.
Dr Suffian, who has extensive expertise in protocol management, social etiquette, and civil service professionalism, guided participants through a comprehensive programme designed to enhance their knowledge and skills in official conduct.
The primary aim of the workshop was to strengthen participants’ understanding of proper protocol and etiquette practices, particularly in the context of official ceremonies and daily public service responsibilities.
Attendees were introduced to a wide range of topics, including professional communication, prioritisation in official duties, procedures for managing formal events, social etiquette, and personal presentation.
Dr Suffian highlighted the importance of civil servants projecting integrity and authority through their behaviour and appearance.
He emphasised that adherence to proper protocol not only reflects professionalism but also reinforces public confidence in government institutions.
Participants were encouraged to adopt best practices that align with the values of ethical service delivery. The workshop also explored how effective communication and structured event management can contribute to smoother operations within government departments.
By focusing on both ceremonial and everyday etiquette, the programme aimed to instil a culture of excellence across the civil service.
Officials noted that the workshop is part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of public service in Sarawak.
By equipping civil servants with the necessary skills and awareness, the initiative seeks to ensure that government representatives consistently uphold standards of professionalism and integrity.
The organisers expressed hope that the training will empower participants to foster a positive work culture, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and credibility of public service delivery.
The workshop is expected to serve as a foundation for future programmes aimed at strengthening the role of civil servants in supporting Sarawak’s development agenda.
