KUCHING – The upcoming 2026 Datuk Bandar Cup Golf Tournament is set to draw attention with a Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV offered as the Hole in One prize. The event will take place on Sunday, 8 August 2026, beginning at 7.00 am at the Sarawak Golf Club.
The announcement was made during a press briefing led by Yang Berbahagia Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Datuk Bandar Utara, at the Sarawak Golf Club.
Organised by Kuching Utara City Hall (DBKU) in partnership with Ghee Hua Co. Sdn. Bhd. and the Sarawak Golf Club, the tournament is expected to attract 258 golfers competing across two divisions: the VIP and Invitational Categories, and the Open Category.
Beyond the headline prize of the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, participants will vie for a range of rewards. Electrical appliances worth RM9,000 will be awarded in the VIP and Invitational Categories, while the Open Category offers RM5,600 in cash prizes.
A lucky draw segment will also be held, with prizes totalling RM6,000. The Datuk Bandar Cup has long been recognised as more than just a sporting event.
Organisers emphasised that the tournament promotes active living while fostering stronger ties between government agencies, private businesses, and the wider community.
The initiative is also seen as a way to reinforce cooperation networks that contribute to Kuching North’s development.
Officials highlighted that the inclusion of a modern hybrid vehicle as the Hole in One prize reflects the city’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, represents Malaysia’s growing push towards greener mobility solutions, aligning with national efforts to encourage eco-friendly transport.
The press conference was attended by several key figures, including DBKU Director Mr Ramzi bin Abdillah, Sarawak Golf Club Captain Mr Roland Phang Cheng Xian, Tournament Director Tuan Haji Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahman, Sarawak Golf Club General Manager Mr Terence Lee Yeow Kong, Ghee Hua Co. Sdn. Bhd. Dealer Owner Mr Kennard Law, HR and Corporate Communication representative Mrs Christina Koscriem, and Sales Manager Mrs Brenda Lee.
