DBKU’s Ihya Ramadan Programme Strengthens Community Spirit in Kuching

KUCHING – The North Kuching City Hall recently hosted its Ihya Ramadan programme, bringing residents together ahead of the fasting month. Held at Masjid Darul Hana in Petra Jaya, the event gathered community leaders, religious scholars, and locals for an evening focused on reflection and unity.

The programme centred on spiritual readiness. In a lecture titled “Our Preparations for Ramadan”, Tuan Guru Syeikh Muhammad Nuruddin Marbu Al-Banjari Al-Makki urged the audience to renew their intentions, strengthen discipline, and deepen their understanding of worship. He reminded attendees that Ramadan calls for personal growth as much as ritual observance.

Among those present was Nancy Shukri, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development. She spoke about the need for strong social support networks, pointing out that more than 156,000 vulnerable cases have received assistance through local centres in recent years. Her remarks linked spiritual preparation with community care.

Hilmy Othman, Mayor of North Kuching, described the initiative as a meaningful way to strengthen ties among residents. The programme also received support from Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya. He has often stressed that Ramadan goes beyond fasting, urging Muslims to build resilience, discipline, and compassion throughout the month.

The evening began before sunset and included activities designed to encourage reflection and togetherness. Beyond the lecture, the gathering gave residents space to reconnect with their faith and approach Ramadan with clearer purpose.

Organisers hope the programme will inspire a more informed and united community. By pairing spiritual guidance with active participation, DBKU wants Ramadan to be observed with understanding, discipline, and solidarity.

As the holy month draws near, the Ihya Ramadan programme serves as a reminder that preparation involves more than abstaining from food and drink. It calls for stronger character, deeper empathy, and a shared commitment to the well-being of the community.
