KUCHING – The Kuching District Police Headquarters has confirmed two successful operations targeting drug-related activities in the city, resulting in arrests and the confiscation of cannabis and property believed to be linked to distribution.
On 24 June, officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division carried out separate raids in Jalan Stampin Timur and Jalan Bako.
The first raid led to the arrest of a 22-year-old local man, while the second involved a 24-year-old suspect. Both individuals were detained for further investigation.
Examinations revealed that the suspects were in possession of substances suspected to be cannabis, weighing approximately 2,153 grams.
The estimated street value of the drugs is around RM6,000. In addition, police seized a BMW vehicle worth RM40,000, believed to have been acquired through proceeds of drug distribution.
Initial urine screenings of both suspects returned negative results. Record checks showed that the first suspect had no prior criminal history, while the second was found to have one previous offence.
The suspects have been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for seven days, from 26 June to 2 July, to assist with investigations.
The case is being pursued under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties including the death sentence or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu stated that the success of the operation was the result of continuous intelligence gathering and cooperation from the public.
He reiterated that the Royal Malaysia Police will not compromise with any parties involved in drug trafficking, stressing that possession, distribution, or protection of drug-related activities is a serious offence under the law.
The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department remains committed to combating drugs to safeguard current and future generations.
Authorities reminded the public that drugs are considered the nation’s number one enemy and urged citizens to provide information through the JSJN hotline at 012-2087222 or the Sarawak JSJN hotline at 017-5929211.
