The Spaoh APM District Operations Control Centre received an emergency call at 10.04 am from a complainant identified as Puan Siti. She reported that the elderly man required urgent medical attention. Acting swiftly, three members of the Charlie Squad were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team discovered the man in a frail condition, unable to move without support. Using a Vital Sign Monitor, they assessed his health and found his blood oxygen level (SpO2) to be critically low. To stabilise his condition, the responders administered oxygen therapy via a nasal cannula.

After providing initial treatment, the team transported the patient to the Spaoh Health Clinic in an official APM vehicle. Medical officers at the clinic were then able to continue with further examinations and treatment. The rapid intervention ensured that the elderly man received timely care, preventing his condition from worsening.

The APM has emphasised the importance of community vigilance in reporting medical emergencies. Quick communication between residents and emergency services often makes the difference in ensuring vulnerable individuals receive immediate aid. In this case, the prompt call from Puan Siti enabled the Charlie Squad to act without delay.

Cases involving elderly citizens are a growing concern in rural Sarawak, where access to healthcare facilities can be limited. The Civil Defence Force plays a crucial role in bridging this gap by providing emergency transport and initial treatment before patients reach clinics or hospitals.

Community leaders in Spaoh have praised the professionalism of the APM team, noting that their readiness and efficiency reflect the department’s motto of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity.” The incident also highlights the importance of equipping emergency responders with medical tools such as oxygen therapy devices, which can be lifesaving in critical situations.

The Spaoh Health Clinic continues to serve as a vital facility for residents in the area, offering essential medical services to rural communities. The collaboration between local clinics and the Civil Defence Force ensures that patients in need are not left unattended during emergencies.

Residents are reminded that emergency assistance can be reached via the 999 hotline or directly through the Spaoh APM office at 083-473006. Authorities encourage the public to report cases promptly, whether involving medical emergencies, accidents, or other urgent situations.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community cooperation and the role of emergency services in safeguarding vulnerable groups. As Sarawak continues to strengthen its healthcare and emergency response systems, the commitment of teams such as APM Spaoh remains central to protecting lives across the state.
