Fatal Accident at Sepupok Bridge Claims Life of Motorcyclist

MIRI – A fatal accident involving a motorcycle and a multi-purpose vehicle occurred at Sepupok Bridge in Miri on the evening of 28 May 2026, leaving one man dead.

The incident was reported at approximately 8.15 pm when a motorcycle ridden by a 62-year-old local man collided with a Perodua Alza driven by a 66-year-old man.

According to police, initial findings suggest the motorcycle was travelling from Niah towards Miri when it was struck from behind by the MPV, causing the rider to fall onto the road.

Emergency responders from Batu Niah Health Clinic arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. The assistant medical officer confirmed the motorcyclist’s death at around 9.40 pm. The driver of the MPV escaped without injury.

The Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Bin Abdullah, confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers offences related to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

If convicted, offenders may face imprisonment and fines, reflecting the seriousness of such incidents under Malaysian law.

Police have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the accident to come forward with information.
