Faulty Street Lights at Batu 10 Under Investigation

BATU 10 – Concerns over malfunctioning LED street lights in Batu 10 have prompted renewed attention from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), following repeated complaints from local residents.

Although repair works were previously undertaken, the lights only remained operational for a short period before failing again. The issue has raised safety concerns among the community, particularly for motorists and pedestrians who rely on proper street lighting at night.

On 30 June 2026, Councillor Gerald Goh, accompanied by fellow councillors Alvin Chong and Philip Liaw, visited the site alongside MPP’s electricians and the Head of the Engineering Department. The team carried out a detailed inspection to determine the underlying cause of the recurring fault.

Early assessments suggest that the problem may be linked to an underground cable defect. The Engineering Department has committed to appointing a specialised technical team to conduct further investigations and implement corrective measures. Officials emphasised that remedial works will be carried out promptly once the source of the fault is confirmed.

Councillor Goh expressed appreciation for the patience shown by residents during this period, assuring that community safety remains the council’s top priority. “Ensuring the well-being of our community is our responsibility, and we are working to resolve this matter as quickly as possible,” he said.

Residents have voiced frustration over the prolonged issue, noting that the lack of functioning street lights poses risks in terms of visibility and security. The council’s renewed efforts aim to provide a long-term solution rather than temporary fixes, ensuring that the infrastructure can withstand future challenges.

Street lighting plays a vital role in public safety, reducing the risk of accidents and deterring crime. Infrastructure experts highlight that underground cable faults are often complex to resolve, requiring thorough technical assessments and specialised equipment. The council’s proactive approach in involving senior engineers and councillors reflects the seriousness of the matter.

The Padawan Municipal Council has urged residents to continue reporting any faults or concerns to ensure timely responses. Councillor Goh can be contacted directly at 019 8165368 for further updates or assistance.

With investigations underway, residents of Batu 10 await a permanent resolution that will restore reliable street lighting and strengthen community safety.
