KUCHING – The Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK) Sungai Nada in Muara Tabuan has announced its upcoming Ngiling Tikai Gawai Dayak 2026 celebration, inviting residents and guests to join in marking the end of the harvest festival.
The event will take place on Saturday, 27 June 2026, at 6.30pm at the Balai Raya Kampung Sungai Nada. The invitation, issued by JKKK Chairman TR Sulia Mose and Secretary Nick Evan Anak Gewong, reflects the committee’s commitment to fostering community spirit and preserving cultural heritage.
The organising team, which includes members such as Kahan Gera, Indra Siping, Selina Kuak, Lydia Moses, and others, expressed their appreciation for the support of local organisations and leaders.
Among the invited guests is YBrs. Councillor Liew Leong Yee from the Kuching South City Council, who also represents Persatuan Kebajikan Penyayang Sehati Sejiwa Kuching.
His participation underscores the collaboration between local authorities and community groups in promoting cultural unity and social engagement.
Ngiling Tikai, a traditional Dayak ceremony, symbolises the conclusion of the Gawai Dayak festival — a time when communities gather to celebrate the harvest season and express gratitude.
The ritual of rolling up mats signifies the closing of festivities, often accompanied by traditional dances, music, and communal feasts.
The organisers hope the event will strengthen bonds among villagers and guests alike. “Semoga dengan kehadiran kalian dapat menyerikan lagi majlis kami pada malam tersebut,” the committee stated, expressing their hope that attendees would enliven the evening’s celebration.
Gawai Dayak, celebrated annually across Sarawak, is recognised as one of the state’s most significant cultural events. It highlights the Dayak people’s rich traditions and their enduring connection to the land.
In recent years, such community-led celebrations have played a vital role in preserving Indigenous customs while encouraging intergenerational participation.
The JKKK Sungai Nada committee has been actively involved in village development and safety initiatives, ensuring that cultural activities remain central to community life.
This year’s Ngiling Tikai celebration is expected to draw a diverse crowd, reflecting Sarawak’s multicultural harmony and shared appreciation for heritage.
As preparations continue, Kampung Sungai Nada stands ready to welcome guests to an evening of cultural pride, unity, and celebration, a testament to the enduring spirit of the Dayak community and the vibrant social fabric of Sarawak.
