Miri Car Parts Shop Catches Fire, Second Floor Severely Damaged
MIRI, 5 May – A car spare parts shop located along Jalan Chong Choon in Miri was partially destroyed after a fire broke out late this morning, damaging about 40 per cent of the building.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO), they received an emergency call about the incident at 11.47am. A team of seven firefighters from the Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station was quickly dispatched to the scene and arrived within seven minutes.
Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered that the fire had broken out on the second floor of a three-storey permanent shoplot. The floor was heavily affected by flames, heat, and smoke, causing an estimated 40 per cent damage to the building.
Thanks to the swift response and efforts by the fire brigade, the blaze was successfully brought under control. The entire firefighting operation concluded at around 1.10pm.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. However, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities.
This fire incident serves as a reminder for shop owners and business premises to ensure their electrical wiring, fire safety systems, and storage practices are regularly checked and maintained.
As investigations continue, the local community is advised to stay cautious and alert, especially during the current dry season, which may increase fire risks.
