SIMUNJAN – A significant investment of RM60 million has been earmarked to transform Kampung Galau Sabal into an international ecotourism destination.
The project, announced by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, aims to create a landscape resort that balances conservation with modern amenities.
The Premier confirmed that all necessary documentation is complete and implementation is poised to begin.
Construction is scheduled to commence next year, with an expected completion date of 2028. The development will feature a wide array of facilities designed to attract both tourists and researchers.
Planned infrastructure includes dedicated research centres, scientific laboratories, and designated conservation zones.
Accommodation and recreational facilities will also be built to enhance the visitor experience. The site’s location between Kuching and Sri Aman is seen as a strategic advantage for attracting domestic and international tourists.
“This is the advantage of our authentic forest, not an artificial forest,” the Premier stated, underscoring the project’s commitment to preserving the natural ecosystem.
He also outlined a broader vision for the hub to become a centre for environmental education, potentially hosting international students from Singapore and other ASEAN nations.
The initiative is presented as a tangible example of Sarawak’s green economic model, demonstrating sustainable forest management.
The official launch event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Power and Environment, Datu Abang Ahmad Abang Morni, and other senior officials.
