German Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities in Sarawak

KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, welcomed a courtesy call from the German Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Silke Riecken-Daerr, on Thursday, 7 May 2026, at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi.

The meeting was part of a wider programme involving a German delegation of nearly 20 companies, who visited Sarawak to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic ties.

The discussions centred on potential cooperation in renewable energy, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and infrastructure development.

Germany already maintains a strong investment presence in Peninsular Malaysia, and the visit was seen as a strategic step towards expanding collaboration into Sarawak.

As part of their itinerary, the delegation toured semiconductor-related companies, including XFAB and SMD, to gain deeper insights into Sarawak’s industrial ecosystem.

Also present during the courtesy call were Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak II, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn; State Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar; and Executive Director of the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC), Hannes Richard Otto Farlock. Their participation underscored the significance of the visit and the potential for future cooperation.
