Government Outreach Programme Expands Access to Services in Sibu

SIBU – Government agencies in Sarawak are intensifying efforts to ensure public services reach communities more effectively through the Outreach One Stop Centre (OSC)-Madani Customer Care Day programme.

The initiative, held at LAKIS Hall, Masjid An-Nur, Jalan Masjid, is designed to streamline access to essential services and strengthen poverty reduction measures.

The programme forms part of the MADANI People’s Wellbeing Initiative, which consolidates multiple government services under one roof.

By adopting a one-stop model, residents are able to access advisory support, register for assistance schemes, undergo health screenings, and enrol in skills training without facing logistical barriers.

Sarawak State Development Office Director, Dato Jasni Jubli, highlighted that the OSC is not merely a service counter but a platform for meaningful engagement between citizens and government agencies.

“The main objective of this programme is to reduce poverty rates and ensure that government services are easily accessible, effective and truly benefit the people,” he said during the launch.

Participating organisations included NADI Salim, NADI Teku, NADI Pelawan, the Sibu District Office, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak Sibu Division, the Sibu Division Social Welfare Office, Bank Rakyat Sibu, the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), Sibu Hospital’s Transfusion Medicine Unit, and the Sibu Division Health Office.

Their involvement reflects the government’s commitment to providing a wide range of support, from financial aid to healthcare and employment services.

The OSC initiative aligns with the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), which carries the theme Improving the Quality of Life of the People.

The plan prioritises tackling the rising cost of living, boosting household incomes, and empowering communities through targeted programmes.

Officials emphasised that the outreach programme is particularly important for rural and semi-urban populations, who often face challenges in accessing government services.

By bringing agencies directly to the community, the initiative aims to bridge gaps in service delivery and foster greater trust in public institutions.

Beyond immediate assistance, the OSC also seeks to encourage long-term resilience by promoting skills development and financial literacy.

This approach is intended to help families achieve sustainable livelihoods, reducing reliance on short-term aid.

The government has reiterated that such outreach activities will continue across Sarawak, with the goal of ensuring inclusivity and strengthening social safety nets.

The initiative underscores Malaysia’s broader strategy of community empowerment, ensuring that development policies translate into tangible benefits for citizens.

As the programme expands, it is expected to play a crucial role in supporting national objectives of poverty eradication and social equity, while reinforcing the principle that government services should be accessible to all.
