KUCHING, 8 April 2026 – A grand religious procession in conjunction with the birthday celebration of Guangze Zunwang is set to take place in the city tomorrow, with an estimated 10,000 participants and 220 vehicles expected to join the event.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu said the parade will be held on 9 April from 4.30pm until 11pm. The large-scale procession is anticipated to attract devotees and members of the public from across Kuching and surrounding areas.
According to him, the parade will begin at Jalan Ban Hock and proceed through several major roads in the city centre. The route includes Jalan Central Timur, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Borneo, Jalan Bukit Mata, Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Gambier, Lebuh Java, Jalan Market, Jalan Kho Hun Yeang, Jalan Pearl and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg before ending at Jalan Carpenter.
Given the scale of the event, police expect heavy traffic congestion along the affected routes throughout the evening. ACP Alexson advised members of the public to plan their journeys in advance and to consider using alternative routes to avoid delays.
He also reminded motorists not to park their vehicles along the shoulders of the roads involved in the procession. This is to ensure smooth traffic flow and to prevent obstruction to both participants and other road users.
“The cooperation of the public is very important to ensure the programme runs smoothly and traffic movement can be controlled effectively,” he said in a statement released on 7 April.
The Royal Malaysia Police will deploy personnel to monitor traffic conditions and maintain public order throughout the event. Road users are urged to remain patient and follow instructions given by traffic officers on duty.
For further enquiries, members of the public may contact the Kuching District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 082-259900. They may also reach the Kuching District Police Headquarters at 082-241133 for additional information.
The Guangze Zunwang celebration is an annual religious and cultural event observed by the local community. Authorities have assured that necessary measures are in place to ensure safety and order during the parade.
As the city prepares for one of its major traditional celebrations, the public is encouraged to cooperate fully with enforcement agencies and to make early travel arrangements to avoid inconvenience.
