KUCHING – Police in Kuching have confirmed the arrest of a 29-year-old man in connection with a motorcycle rim theft reported earlier this month.
The suspect was detained by the district’s Lejang Team at Simpang Tiga on 6 May 2026, following investigations into a case lodged on 2 May at Old Court Road.
Authorities stated that the suspect was apprehended after being linked to the theft of a motorcycle and several related items.
Early enquiries indicated his involvement in the incident, which had raised concerns among local residents about vehicle-related crimes in the area.
A urine test conducted after the arrest revealed the presence of amphetamine and methamphetamine. Police also confirmed that the individual has two prior criminal records, adding weight to suspicions of repeated offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code, which covers the theft of motor vehicle components.
Convictions under this section carry a minimum sentence of one year’s imprisonment, with the possibility of up to seven years, and may also include a fine.
District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu emphasised that the arrest demonstrates ongoing efforts to curb property crime in Kuching.
He noted that the police remain committed to tackling theft cases and ensuring public safety across the district.
