MERADONG – Police in Meradong have stepped up enforcement against illegal motorcycle racing and dangerous modifications through a targeted operation conducted over the weekend.
The initiative, known as Op Motosikal Samseng Jalanan, was carried out along Jalan KJD from midnight until 3.00 am on 30 May 2026.
The operation was led by the Meradong District Police Headquarters (IPD Meradong) and focused on curbing reckless riding, unlawful vehicle alterations, and ensuring compliance with road safety regulations.
Authorities emphasised that such activities pose serious risks not only to the riders themselves but also to other road users.
Illegal racing and the use of non-standard motorcycle components have long been a concern in Sarawak, with enforcement agencies highlighting the dangers of high-speed stunts and unsafe modifications.
Police officers explained that the operation was designed to send a clear message to offenders that road laws must be respected.
The crackdown also targeted motorcycles fitted with loud exhaust systems, which have been a source of disturbance to local communities.
Parents were urged to play a proactive role in monitoring their children’s movements, particularly during late-night hours.
Officers advised families to discourage young riders from engaging in unhealthy or unlawful activities, stressing that parental vigilance is vital in preventing involvement in street racing.
The police further reminded parents to ensure that their children’s motorcycles are not altered in ways that breach safety standards.
Noisy exhausts, in particular, were singled out as a nuisance that undermines community peace and comfort. IPD Meradong confirmed that similar operations will continue on weekends and public holidays.
The sustained enforcement effort is part of a broader strategy to reduce road accidents, improve compliance with traffic laws, and safeguard the public from reckless behaviour.
Illegal motorcycle racing has been a recurring issue across Malaysia, with police forces nationwide conducting regular operations to dismantle groups of riders who endanger lives.
In Sarawak, authorities have pledged to maintain strict oversight, combining enforcement with awareness campaigns to educate young people about the consequences of dangerous riding.
The Meradong police reiterated their commitment to protecting the community, noting that the operation reflects their determination to uphold safety standards and preserve public order.
Residents are encouraged to cooperate with enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing crime and enhancing road safety.
