Padawan Police Crack Down on Street Thug Activities

Enforcement officers issued 96 summonses for various traffic offences, while 13 motorcycles were confiscated.

Police also noted five instances of reckless riding, which included dangerous stunts such as wheelies, zig-zag manoeuvres, and extreme riding styles.

These actions were categorised as high-risk behaviours that not only endangered the riders themselves but also posed serious threats to other road users.

The majority of offences involved motorcycles that had been illegally modified, riders without valid licences, and vehicles with non-compliant registration numbers.

Such violations are commonly associated with street thug activities, which have been a growing concern in urban areas.

IPD Padawan emphasised that public roads are not meant to be used as performance venues. Officers reminded the community that reckless riding can result in severe accidents, injuries, and even fatalities.

The police urged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s movements, particularly at night, to prevent them from engaging in such dangerous activities.

The operation reflects the police’s ongoing commitment to maintaining public safety and reducing traffic-related risks.

Similar enforcement exercises are expected to continue across Sarawak, particularly in areas identified as hotspots for illegal street racing and stunt riding.

Authorities have reiterated that strict enforcement, combined with public awareness, is essential to fostering a culture of responsible road use.

Community members are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious or dangerous activities to help prevent accidents before they occur.
