KUCHING – The Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) held an official visit and discussion session with Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) on 13 April 2026, focusing on the expansion of advanced medical imaging services.
The meeting highlighted the potential for collaboration in providing wider access to diagnostic facilities, particularly PET-Scan technology, to benefit the community.
The session served as a platform for exchanging views on how high-tech medical imaging can improve patient care and strengthen Sarawak’s healthcare system.
PET-Scan services, which are increasingly vital in diagnosing cancer and other complex conditions, were at the centre of discussions.
Both parties emphasised the importance of ensuring that such facilities are accessible to more patients, especially in regions where advanced diagnostic services remain limited.
Representing BMC at the meeting were General Manager Dr Kenneth Tan, Operations Manager Ms Melanie Kho, and Marketing Manager Ms Christina Yii.
Their participation underscored the hospital’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery through strategic partnerships.
JKMS officials noted that collaboration with private medical institutions such as BMC could accelerate the availability of advanced diagnostic tools across Sarawak.
The dialogue also explored ways to strengthen strategic networks between government agencies and healthcare providers.
By fostering cooperation, both sides aim to improve the overall quality of health services, ensuring that communities benefit from timely and accurate medical diagnoses.
The exchange of perspectives was seen as a step towards building a more resilient healthcare ecosystem in Sarawak.
The meeting reflects a broader trend in Sarawak’s healthcare development, where partnerships between government departments and private institutions are increasingly recognised as essential for advancing medical technology and service delivery.
With rising demand for specialised diagnostic services, initiatives like this are expected to play a crucial role in improving patient outcomes and community well-being.
JKMS expressed optimism that the discussions would pave the way for more collaborative opportunities in the future.
The department emphasised that strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to advanced medical services remain key priorities in its mission to support the welfare of Sarawak’s population.
