BINTULU – The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak has strengthened its commitment to efficient project delivery through the One Month Pledge Signing 2026, held in Bintulu on 5 May.

The initiative underscores the importance of early-stage planning and accountability in ensuring infrastructure projects progress smoothly.

The pledge signing session was led by Assistant Divisional Engineer (Development) Mr Aizzat Firdaus, alongside three contractors engaged in rural bridge projects.

The symbolic signing represents a shared responsibility to uphold integrity, discipline and professionalism throughout the construction process. Also present was Engineer Mr Joseph Tyran from JKR Bintulu’s Minor Project Section.

Among the projects covered under the pledge are:

  • Construction of a new iron bridge on the road to Rh. Ak Nyanggau Das, Kelawit, Km4, Tatau-Sibu Road, Tatau District.
  • Building of a new iron bridge on Long Unan Road, Kampung Senep, Tubau, Sebauh.
  • Development of a new iron bridge on the road to Rh. Nyaring Ak Minggu, Ulu Jelalang, Tubau, Sebauh.

Each contractor is required to prepare a structured work plan within the first 30 days, ensuring momentum is established early and reducing the risk of delays in later stages.

JKR Sarawak has emphasised that systematic monitoring will be carried out to ensure that pledges translate into tangible progress on site.

The One Month Pledge initiative is part of JKR Sarawak’s wider strategy to embed a culture of integrity and high performance across the construction sector.

By requiring contractors to commit to clear timelines and responsibilities from the outset, the department aims to strengthen transparency and accountability in project execution.

This approach aligns with JKR Sarawak’s mission to deliver efficient, transparent and high-impact public services, particularly in rural infrastructure development.

The pledge also reflects the department’s guiding principle, “We Build For You,” which highlights its responsibility to ensure projects are completed with quality, integrity and within the stipulated timeframe.

The Rural Bridge Transformation Programme, under which these projects fall, is a key initiative to improve connectivity for rural communities in Sarawak.

By replacing older structures with new iron bridges, the programme seeks to enhance safety, accessibility and economic opportunities for residents in remote areas.

JKR Sarawak reiterated that the One Month Pledge Signing is not merely a procedural exercise but a meaningful step towards reinforcing trust between the department, contractors and the public.

The initiative demonstrates the department’s determination to uphold standards of excellence in infrastructure delivery, ensuring that every project contributes to the long-term development of Sarawak.
