KUCHING – The Director of Public Works (JKR) Sarawak, YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, carried out a site inspection at the Kuching Civic Hall on 20 April 2026 to assess the progress of ongoing roof replacement works.
The project involves dismantling the existing roof structure and installing a new system designed to improve durability and safety standards.
According to the latest updates, construction has reached more than 90 per cent completion, signalling that the initiative is advancing steadily and remains on schedule.
During the visit, the director was briefed by the project team on current developments and challenges encountered on site.
The session highlighted the importance of maintaining strict adherence to technical specifications and ensuring that all activities align with the approved timeline.
He stressed that collaboration between contractors, engineers, and supervising authorities is essential for the successful delivery of the project.
Continuous monitoring and coordination were identified as key measures to guarantee that the Civic Hall’s refurbishment meets the required standards of quality and safety.
The Kuching Civic Hall, also known as the Civic Centre, has long served as a venue for community gatherings, cultural events, and official functions.
Its renovation is part of broader efforts to modernise public facilities in Sarawak, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and accessible to the public.
Infrastructure upgrades such as this are consistent with Sarawak’s wider development agenda, which places emphasis on enhancing civic amenities and supporting urban growth.
