KUCHING – The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak hosted the Industry Collaboration and Appreciation 2026 event on 22 April, bringing together 102 industry partners to recognise their contributions towards infrastructure development across the state.
Director of Public Works Sarawak, YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, highlighted in his address that strong collaboration between JKR and industry stakeholders is essential for building a stable, transparent, and sustainable construction sector.
He noted that the professionalism and commitment shown by partners in responding to quotation requests have played a vital role in improving the accuracy of project cost planning.
The event also marked the official launch of the JKRS Cost Connect Portal, a digital platform designed to consolidate market price data from industry partners.
Developed as part of JKR’s digitalisation drive, the portal supports the Premier of Sarawak’s vision to modernise public service delivery.
Through the portal, quotations submitted by industry players will be used exclusively for internal purposes, including preparing project cost estimates, updating the Schedule of Rates, and enhancing project delivery standards.
By ensuring that cost data remains current and reflective of market conditions, the initiative aims to strengthen efficiency and accountability in infrastructure projects.
Dr. Cassidy emphasised that the portal represents a step forward in integrating technology into public works management.
He explained that digitalisation not only streamlines processes but also enhances transparency, enabling JKR to deliver projects that are competitive and high-impact.
The programme underscored JKR Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to building strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders.
By fostering collaboration and embracing digital tools, the department aims to deliver infrastructure that supports economic growth and improves the quality of life for communities across Sarawak.
