KUCHING – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) carried out a special enforcement operation, Ops Luxury, on 13 June 2026, resulting in the seizure of two luxury vehicles during patrols around Kuching city.
The vehicles involved were a Toyota Alphard and a Mercedes-Benz. Upon inspection, JPJ officers discovered that the Mercedes-Benz had an expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) and insurance coverage, while the Toyota Alphard was found to be unregistered in the JPJ system. Both vehicles were confiscated in accordance with current legal provisions.
JPJ Sarawak emphasised that ownership of high-value vehicles comes with the same responsibilities as any other road user.
The department reminded motorists that compliance with registration, licensing, and insurance requirements is essential to ensure road safety and protect the interests of all drivers.
Officials noted that failure to maintain valid documentation or operating an unregistered vehicle can lead to enforcement action.
They stressed that luxury vehicles, despite their prestige, are not exempt from the law and must adhere to the same standards as other vehicles on the road.
JPJ Sarawak also reiterated its commitment to strengthening enforcement measures without compromise. The department pledged to continue monitoring and taking action against violations to safeguard public safety and maintain order on the roads.
The operation reflects JPJ’s broader strategy of ensuring that road users act responsibly and with integrity. By targeting non-compliance among all categories of vehicles, including luxury models, the department aims to reinforce the principle that road safety is a shared responsibility.
Motorists across Sarawak are urged to check their vehicle registration, LKM, and insurance coverage regularly to avoid penalties and ensure compliance.
