KUCHING – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) carried out a major enforcement exercise under Ops Gempur Kenyalang on Friday, 15 May 2026, targeting road users along the Jalan Samarahan Expressway.
The operation, led by the JPJ Kuching Operations Unit, was conducted through static enforcement and drew the participation of senior officials.
Among those present were JPJ Sarawak Director YBrs. Tuan Norizan bin Jili, Head of Enforcement Division Puan Fifi Suhesty binti Asmuni, and Head of Operations Section Tuan Saifullah bin Hj Ali, who personally inspected the enforcement activities on site.
Over the course of the operation, a total of 895 vehicles of various categories were checked. Inspections revealed multiple offences, including driving without a valid licence, expired licences, improper use of HID and LED lights, and other technical violations.
Seventeen vehicles were seized during the exercise. These included two motor cars, one luxury jeep, one luxury window van, one four-wheel drive vehicle, ten motorcycles, a motorcycle operated by a foreign driver, and a cement mixer lorry.
The vehicles were confiscated for offences such as expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), lack of insurance coverage, foreign drivers without valid licences, and extreme vehicle modifications.
Officials emphasised that enforcement action was taken in line with existing legal provisions. The seizures highlight the department’s commitment to ensuring compliance with road safety regulations and reducing risks posed by unlicensed or improperly maintained vehicles.
Ops Gempur Kenyalang is part of JPJ Sarawak’s broader strategy to intensify enforcement against traffic violations. The department has pledged to continue such operations aggressively and consistently, with the aim of safeguarding road users and promoting responsible driving behaviour.
The initiative also reflects ongoing efforts to address concerns about road safety in Sarawak. With increasing traffic volumes across Kuching and surrounding districts, authorities have stressed the importance of strict enforcement to deter reckless practices and protect the public.
JPJ Sarawak has reiterated that road safety remains a top priority. By combining inspections, seizures, and legal action, the department seeks to instil greater awareness among motorists and ensure that vehicles on the road meet required standards.
