KUCHING – Families and members of the public gathered at Medan Raya for Kuching Car Free Morning 2026, which featured a range of recreational and community activities in conjunction with the Independence Day celebrations.
The programme, organised by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), brought residents together for an active morning with activities designed for people of different ages.
Among the activities held was a Fun Walk, giving participants an opportunity to exercise while spending time in the city centre.
An Aerodance session was also organised as part of the morning’s programme, providing participants with another form of physical activity.
Families were also able to take part in a painting competition, with the activity giving children and their parents an opportunity to participate together.
Children were among those who took part in the event, with various costumes adding to the atmosphere during the morning programme.
A rollerblade training clinic was also held, providing participants with an opportunity to learn and practise rollerblading skills.
The programme included various other activities throughout the morning, giving visitors different options to participate according to their interests.
DBKU said children who attended the event were actively involved and enjoyed the activities held during the programme.
The event also provided an opportunity for families to spend time together in a car-free environment while taking part in recreational activities.
The combination of exercise, creative activities and children’s programmes helped attract participants of different age groups to Medan Raya.
Competition winners were also recognised during the event, with congratulations extended to those who took part and secured prizes in the various competitions.
DBKU also expressed its appreciation to members of the public who attended and helped make the Kuching Car Free Morning programme a lively community event.
The programme forms part of the ongoing Kuching Car Free Morning initiative, which provides opportunities for residents and visitors to take part in recreational activities in public spaces.
The Independence Day-themed edition also gave participants an opportunity to enjoy community activities as the city prepares for the 2026 national celebrations.
The event at Medan Raya combined physical activities with family-oriented programmes, allowing participants to spend their morning away from regular traffic and take part in activities with other members of the community.
The presence of families and children was a notable feature of the morning, with young participants joining the painting competition, costume activities and rollerblading programme.
The Fun Walk and Aerodance sessions also encouraged participants to remain active during the event.
DBKU said the public response contributed to the success of the programme and thanked those who came to support and participate in the activities.
The next Kuching Car Free Morning session is scheduled to take place at Padang Merdeka on August 16, 2026.
The upcoming programme will provide another opportunity for the public to participate in the weekly community initiative.
