A heartwarming display of compassion took place at Kampung Pulo Hilir, Petra Jaya, where Manjeet Sidhu, the President of PPIS (a local NGO) and the Chartered President of Lions Club Kuching Unity, along with representatives from Majlis PersoSialan Sarawak, visited an elderly couple in dire need. Uncle Manzur and Aunty Dara, the couple in question, have been facing challenging health and financial circumstances after Aunty Dara suffered a debilitating brain stroke several months ago. Since then, her condition has been complicated by a seizure disorder, requiring constant care and support.
In response to their urgent needs, the Lions Club Kuching Unity, District 308-A2, led a charitable initiative to supply the couple with essential items such as milk, adult diapers, and other necessary food supplies. These items will aid in meeting their daily needs as they manage their current medical situation.
Aunty Dara’s condition has also placed a significant burden on Uncle Manzur, who is unable to work as he remains her primary caregiver. Furthermore, the couple lacks a vehicle, limiting their ability to access medical appointments and other crucial services. Recognizing these hardships, the Lions Club stepped in with additional assistance from the Sarawak Department of Social Welfare (JKM), represented by Arziah. Together, they organized further support for the couple, including arrangements for the Kenyalang Gold Card, a resource intended to provide financial aid to senior citizens in need.
Manjeet Sidhu expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided and extended thanks to all those involved in alleviating the burden on this struggling couple. She emphasized the importance of community solidarity in providing ongoing support, especially for vulnerable groups who lack basic amenities and mobility.
The community is encouraged to offer their support and prayers for Uncle Manzur and Aunty Dara, hoping that with combined efforts, some of their burdens can be lifted, giving them renewed hope and security.
