KUCHING – A total of 100 Sarawak civil servants received donations from the Sarawak Government Members’ Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) during a breaking of fast ceremony held at the Multipurpose Hall, Satria Pertiwi Complex, on Monday evening.
The event was officiated by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, Premier of Sarawak and Patron of MAKSAK Sarawak. He personally presented donations to 20 representatives of the recipients after the iftar ceremony.
The occasion was attended by several senior leaders, including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, and Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Other dignitaries present included Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, State Government Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, deputy ministers, heads of departments, and representatives from various agencies.
Earlier in the evening, the Premier joined honorary dignitaries and Muslim civil servants in performing the Maghrib prayer. Following the donation handover, the Premier and guests continued with Isyak and tarawih prayers before concluding the ceremony with a moreh feast.
The donation initiative was seen as a gesture of appreciation and support for civil servants, reflecting MAKSAK’s commitment to welfare and community solidarity. The event also highlighted the importance of unity and compassion during the holy month of Ramadan.
By combining religious observance with acts of charity, the ceremony reinforced the values of service and care within the civil service community. The presence of top state leaders further underscored the government’s recognition of the contributions made by civil servants in Sarawak.
