BAU – A significant boost to local mobility and employability was delivered in the P.192 Mas Gading parliamentary constituency as 754 residents received assistance to obtain their Class B2 driving licences.
The distribution ceremony, held at the SJKC Chung Hua Bau Hall on Saturday, marked a successful conclusion to the 2026 assistance programme aimed at easing financial barriers for aspiring motorcyclists.
The event was officiated by Mordi Bimol, who serves as both the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and the Member of Parliament for Mas Gading.
His presence highlighted the federal government’s commitment to grassroots development and youth empowerment within the region.
The initiative specifically targets eligible individuals who have successfully navigated the screening process and passed both theoretical and practical examinations mandated by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
During his address, Mordi emphasised that possessing a driving licence extends beyond mere legal compliance. He described it as a profound trust that carries significant social responsibility.
Recipients were urged to utilise their new credentials for constructive purposes, such as commuting to work, attending educational institutions, accessing skills training, or facilitating medical appointments for family members.
“Make this licence a tool to build a better future, not a cause for accidents or regrets, and be a child who makes parents proud, a disciplined member of society and always practises good manners,” he said.
This statement underscored the dual purpose of the programme: enhancing socio-economic opportunities while fostering a culture of safety. Mordi reminded all beneficiaries that adherence to road rules is non-negotiable.
Every road user bears the responsibility of ensuring their own safety and that of others, making disciplined riding a civic duty rather than just a personal choice.
In line with national safety objectives, the Deputy Minister called upon the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and JPJ to intensify their collaborative enforcement efforts.
This partnership is crucial to achieving the government’s ambitious target of reducing road accident fatalities by 50 per cent by 2030.
Strengthening enforcement alongside education creates a comprehensive approach to road safety that protects newly licensed riders and the wider community.
Beyond licensing, Mordi encouraged the youth of Mas Gading to leverage other federal initiatives designed to enhance marketability.
He specifically pointed to the Rakan Muda Program, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and entrepreneurship courses offered by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS).
These programmes are intended to generate income streams and provide alternative career pathways for young people in the constituency.
Community organisations, sports clubs, and youth associations were also advised to tap into available government support.
By actively participating in these schemes, local groups can drive community development and create supportive ecosystems for youth growth.
The synergy between individual empowerment and organisational capacity building is seen as vital for long-term regional progress.
Following the formal handover, Mordi toured an exhibition featuring various government agencies. This interactive session allowed him to review services offered to the public and gather direct feedback from agency representatives regarding programme implementation.
Such engagement ensures that future initiatives remain responsive to actual community needs and service delivery gaps.
The Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme ultimately aims to alleviate financial burdens while producing responsible motorists. By removing cost barriers, the initiative enables more residents to participate fully in economic activities.
Simultaneously, the emphasis on discipline and safety contributes to broader road safety improvements across the P.192 Mas Gading constituency.
Key officials present at the ceremony included Mohd Faizal David Jemat, Deputy Director of JPJ Sarawak; Yusniman Mohamad, Head of the JPJ Sarawak Driver Licensing Division; and Inspector Chew Cher Shin, representing the Bau District Police Chief.
