MBKS Launches Mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive Starting Feb 15

KUCHING, Feb 8: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will kick off the first of four mass anti-rabies vaccination campaigns on Feb 15, aimed at protecting pets and communities from the ongoing threat of rabies. The vaccination drive will also offer microchipping, pet licensing, and subsidised neutering services.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng highlighted the importance of the campaign following two rabies cases reported between Feb 3 and 7 in Taman Genesis and Desa Wira in Batu Kawa.

“The Taman Genesis case involved a pet dog, while the Desa Wira case was linked to a stray,” he revealed during his #ShallWeeTalk live session.

The mass vaccination programme will be conducted at the following locations from 8.30am to 4.30pm:

1️⃣ Feb 15 – Sarawak Badminton Association Hall, Lorong Lapangan Terbang 1 (near the former Four Points Hotel).
2️⃣ April 12 – MBKS Community Hall, Jalan Padungan.
3️⃣ July 5 – Song Swee Guan Recreation Park, Tabuan Jaya.
4️⃣ Oct 4 – Sarawak Association Basketball Court, Taman Seng Goon.

Dato Wee encouraged all pet owners to mark these dates and bring their pets for their annual vaccination.
“Don’t forget to bring the necessary documents,” he reminded.

Regarding cat vaccinations, Dato Wee said he is collaborating with the Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) to expand the programme. He mentioned that SSPCA has allocated a budget for this initiative and will provide an update once further discussions are completed.

This mass vaccination campaign is part of MBKS’ ongoing commitment to fight rabies in Sarawak and promote responsible pet ownership.
