Miri Police Arrest Local Man in Attempted Cable Theft Near Bulatan GL

MIRI — A local man has been arrested by police after he was suspected of attempting to steal roadside cables in the Bulatan GL area, marking yet another reminder of the ongoing battle against property crime in the district.

The arrest was carried out by the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD) MPV unit during a routine patrol operation. The team, led by MPV Supervisor Sjn Helmi bin Rosli (M187 Miri), noticed suspicious activity near a roadside area heading towards Bulatan GL. Their swift response led to the successful apprehension of the suspect.

According to police, the man was found with several pieces of equipment believed to have been used in the attempted theft. These items were seized at the scene as evidence to support the investigation.

The suspect was then brought to the Miri Central Police Station Lockup for further action. The case is being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code, which deals with attempted theft and the preparations made to commit such an offence.

Police stress that cable theft is not a minor matter. It causes disruptions to public facilities, creates safety risks, and results in costly repairs. Incidents like this remind authorities and the public that vigilance remains essential.

The police also renewed their call for public cooperation. They encouraged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities through the proper channels. Early information, they said, can prevent crimes and protect community assets.

“Do not get involved in criminal or illegal activities. Help us maintain peace and safety by sharing information,” the police advised in a statement, expressing appreciation for community members who continue to support law enforcement efforts.

As Miri continues to grow, community awareness and timely reporting remain key in ensuring the district stays safe and orderly.
