Miri R&DO Contingent Gears Up for SCS 2025 Sports Carnival in Samarahan

MIRI – The Miri Division Resident and Head of the Administrative Contingent, Galong Luang, has called on participants from Miri to deliver their best performance at the upcoming Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) Resident and District Office (R&DO) Sports Carnival 2025.

Speaking during a final briefing session with 120 athletes and officials at the Sarawak Islamic Complex in Miri, Galong emphasised the importance of discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

He reminded the contingent to safeguard the reputation of Miri Division and avoid disputes that could tarnish the spirit of the event.

A total of 90 staff members from the Miri R&DO will compete in a variety of sports, including football, netball, badminton, table tennis and pickleball.

The carnival, which brings together contingents from across Sarawak, will be staged from 6 to 9 November 2025, with the main venue at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in Kota Samarahan. The pickleball matches will be hosted separately at Summer Mall, Samarahan.

The SCS R&DO Sports Carnival is a biennial event designed to foster unity, camaraderie and healthy competition among civil servants. This year’s edition is particularly significant as Samarahan is hosting the carnival for the first time in 22 years, with organisers expecting a spirited turnout from all participating divisions.

Galong highlighted that the carnival is not only about winning medals, but also about strengthening bonds among civil service staff across the state. “Sportsmanship and discipline are as important as victory. Representing Miri means carrying the pride of the division, and I trust all participants will give their best,” he said.

Also present at the briefing were Beluru District Officer Charles Aloysius Lisu, Subis District Officer Norlila Ulis, and other senior administrative staff, who expressed their support for the contingent.

The carnival will feature a wide range of sports, with football and netball expected to draw strong competition. Other divisions, including Sri Aman and Samarahan, have also launched their teams with high hopes of securing podium finishes.

With the event just days away, the Miri contingent is finalising preparations and training sessions. The division aims not only to achieve sporting success, but also to contribute to the carnival’s broader goal of promoting unity and wellness among Sarawak’s civil service community.
