KUCHING – The Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (MTCP) contingent secured runner-up position in the Ministry Category of the Parade and Mass Meeting Ceremony held at Padang Merdeka on 10 October 2026.
The event was organised in conjunction with the 80th birthday celebration of Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. MTCP announced the result on Saturday, congratulating its contingent on finishing second in the ministry division.
The achievement marked a strong showing by the ministry’s representatives at the ceremony, which brought together contingents from government ministries and other organisations. Their participation formed part of the public programme commemorating the Governor’s milestone birthday in Kuching.
MTCP attributed the result to the commitment and discipline demonstrated by its contingent members throughout the preparation period. Training and rehearsals were an important part of the team’s efforts ahead of the event, according to the ministry’s announcement.
The ministry also acknowledged the contributions of the coaches and secretariat involved in preparing the contingent. Their work, alongside the efforts of the participants, supported MTCP’s involvement in the ceremonial gathering.
The runner-up position was described by the ministry as a source of pride for its members and an encouragement to maintain their commitment in their respective responsibilities. The result also recognised the collective effort required to prepare a contingent for a formal parade competition.
Parade competitions generally place emphasis on coordinated movement, discipline, uniformity and teamwork. Participants must work together to maintain consistent formations and execute routines in line with the requirements of the event.
For government ministries, such ceremonies provide an opportunity to represent their organisations during significant state occasions. The preparation process can also encourage cooperation among staff members from different units, as participants work towards a shared objective.
MTCP oversees areas relating to tourism, creative industries and performing arts in Sarawak. These sectors contribute to the state’s cultural identity and economic development, with the ministry responsible for supporting relevant programmes and initiatives.
Although the parade competition was separate from the ministry’s main policy responsibilities, the contingent’s participation provided an opportunity for MTCP to be represented during the Governor’s birthday celebrations. Its second-place finish placed the ministry among the leading contingents in the Ministry Category.
The ceremony at Padang Merdeka formed part of the activities held on 10 October to mark the Governor’s 80th birthday. The occasion brought participating organisations together for a public display of coordination and institutional representation.
MTCP extended its appreciation to all contingent members, coaches and secretariat personnel who contributed their time and effort during preparations. The ministry also thanked everyone involved in supporting its participation in the ceremony.
The runner-up result marks a collective achievement for MTCP, reflecting the team’s preparation and cooperation ahead of the state celebration. The ministry’s announcement highlighted the contribution of everyone involved in securing the result at the Kuching event. â Sarawak Daily
