BINTULU – The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Malaysia, Bintulu Branch, conducted a site visit on 17 April 2026 to one of the Public Works Department (JKR) Bintulu Division’s project sites. The visit formed part of the Construction Site Safety Supervisor (SSS) Course, attended by 26 students.
The initiative was designed to provide participants with direct exposure to occupational safety and health practices at construction sites.
By observing real-world applications, students gained practical insights into industry standards that demand strict compliance with safety regulations.
During the visit, students examined how safety procedures are implemented on-site. This included the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), risk management strategies, and hazard control measures.
The hands-on experience allowed participants to understand how these practices contribute to maintaining a safe and controlled working environment.
The programme also highlighted the strategic collaboration between NIOSH Malaysia and JKR Bintulu Division.
Both organisations are working together to strengthen the development of competent and knowledgeable human capital in construction safety.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to building integrity and professionalism within the industry.
In recognition of the support provided, JKR Bintulu Division received a Certificate of Appreciation from NIOSH Malaysia. The award acknowledged the division’s role in facilitating the site visit and ensuring its success.
The SSS Course is part of NIOSH’s broader agenda to equip individuals with the skills needed to supervise safety at construction sites.
By combining classroom learning with practical exposure, the course aims to produce supervisors who are capable of enforcing safety standards and promoting a culture of responsibility.
Construction remains one of the most high-risk industries, and Malaysia has consistently emphasised the importance of safety compliance to reduce workplace accidents.
Programmes such as the SSS Course are vital in ensuring that future supervisors are well-prepared to uphold safety standards and protect workers.
Overall, the site visit not only enhanced the students’ practical understanding but also reinforced ongoing efforts to instil safe work practices.
It demonstrated how collaboration between institutions can contribute to raising professionalism and ensuring safer construction environments across the country.
