PUTRAJAYA, 9 May 2025 – In a key move to boost cooperation and energy development, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg have agreed to resolve all outstanding issues between PETRONAS and PETROS through direct negotiations.

The high-level meeting was held today at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya, attended by top leaders from both national oil companies – PETRONAS and Sarawak’s own PETROS. The atmosphere was described as cordial and cooperative, reflecting a shared commitment to the spirit of the Malaysian Federation.

Both leaders reaffirmed their mutual intention to finalise the basic principles that were agreed upon previously. These principles will serve as the foundation for detailed negotiations between PETRONAS and PETROS moving forward.

This development marks a positive step toward unlocking the full potential of collaboration between the two energy giants. One key goal is to fast-track the commercial supply of energy to ASEAN countries, which could position Malaysia—especially Sarawak—as a regional energy hub.

The agreement also demonstrates a shared vision to handle disputes through peaceful means and dialogue, paving the way for a stronger federal-state relationship in managing natural resources.

This commitment aligns with the national agenda to strengthen energy security, enhance economic cooperation, and uphold the rights of Sarawak under the Malaysian Constitution.

As Malaysia pushes forward in the global energy market, the unity between Putrajaya and Kuching is seen as crucial for national progress and regional competitiveness. – Sarawakku
