Held at the Sarawak State Farmers’ Association (PPNS) Building from 10 to 12 July, the expo brought together government agencies, entrepreneurs, and agricultural industry players through exhibitions, talks, and technology demonstrations. The event emphasised innovation and sustainability in agriculture, attracting strong participation from across the state.

During a walkabout session, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak, YB Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ismail, who also serves as Chairman of PPNS, visited PUSAKA’s booth. His presence underscored the importance of bamboo as a resource with significant potential for community empowerment and economic growth.

PUSAKA showcased its Bamboo Project, which focuses on community-based development and the commercialisation of bamboo products. The initiative encourages local communities to engage in bamboo planting, processing, and production of value-added goods, positioning bamboo as a sustainable raw material with high commercial value.

Officials explained that the project is designed to support Sarawak’s green economy by promoting bamboo as an alternative resource for downstream industries. With its versatility and environmental benefits, bamboo is increasingly recognised as a catalyst for socio-economic development, offering opportunities for rural communities to participate in modern industry.

As part of its participation, PUSAKA conducted a briefing titled Basics of Bamboo Cultivation and Maintenance for 40 expo attendees. The session aimed to increase awareness of good cultivation practices and highlight the industrial potential of bamboo. Participants were introduced to techniques for planting and maintaining bamboo, as well as insights into its role in sustainable product development.

The PPNS Agriculture Expo 2026 provided a platform for agencies like PUSAKA to demonstrate how natural resource-based industries can contribute to Sarawak’s long-term development. Exhibitors showcased innovations in farming, resource management, and sustainable practices, reinforcing the state’s commitment to balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship.

Community members attending the expo expressed interest in bamboo’s potential, noting its wide range of applications from construction materials to household products. Many highlighted that bamboo’s rapid growth and adaptability make it an ideal resource for both local use and export markets.

PUSAKA’s involvement in the expo reflects its ongoing mission to strengthen industries based on sustainable resources. By promoting bamboo, the agency aims to diversify Sarawak’s economy while empowering communities to take part in value-added production. Officials emphasised that the project is not only about economic opportunity but also about preserving ecological balance and supporting Sarawak’s vision of a green economy.

The success of the expo demonstrated strong public interest in sustainable agriculture and resource development. With bamboo positioned as a key driver of innovation, PUSAKA’s initiatives are expected to play a significant role in shaping Sarawak’s future industries.
