Moscow / Pyongyang — Russian President Vladimir Putin has briefed North Korean leader Kim Jong-un regarding his upcoming summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, scheduled for August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska. This followed a phone call between the two leaders, as confirmed by the Kremlin.
In the conversation, Putin shared details about his agenda with Trump, particularly focusing on efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict—a critical focus of the Alaska summit.
The briefing signals Moscow’s intent to keep Pyongyang informed of its diplomatic initiatives with the U.S., reflecting the close strategic alignment solidified earlier this year. In June 2024, Putin and Kim signed a Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reinforcing cooperation in defence, trade, and security.
Meanwhile, as the summit approaches, diplomatic tensions are mounting. Ukrainian officials continue to warn they risk being sidelined—and caution that any territorial concessions could embolden Russian aggression.
