Sarawak Successfully Hosts AGG Carnival 2026 & MAGGA National Series 1

KUCHING – Sarawak proudly hosted the Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) Carnival 2026 and the Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (MAGGA) National Series 1 on 25–26 April 2026, marking a significant milestone in the sport’s growth across Malaysia.

The two-day event, held at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP Headquarters, brought together around 300 gymnasts and delegations from across the country.

Organised by the Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA) in collaboration with MAGGA, the carnival showcased both grassroots development and national-level competition.

Day one featured the National AGG Development (NAD) Individual Grading and NAD Group Competition, followed by a prize-giving ceremony.

Organisers noted record participation in the individual grading segment, alongside a notable rise in entries from Sarawak-based teams in the group categories.

Day two focused on the MAGGA National Series 1 NAD Group Competition and the IFAGG (International Rules) Programme Competition.

The day concluded with a prize-giving ceremony and an AGG training workshop led by the Malaysia Junior Team and Malaysia Junior Mixed Team, offering valuable technical exposure to participants.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Mdm Kho Teck Wan, Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, representing Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, YB Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew. Also present were MAGGA representatives, including Secretary General Ms Sarah Sarraj.

Teams from across Malaysia competed, with strong representation from Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak. Local clubs such as Mine Dance Studio, Spade Rhythm AGG Club and Track and Dance delivered impressive performances, securing top positions in several categories.

Sarawak’s gymnasts achieved notable success, including first place in the Kinder and Level 2 categories, as well as strong showings in IFAGG short programme competitions.

The participation of Malaysia’s Junior Team and Junior Mixed Team added prestige to the event, as they continue preparations for the upcoming IFAGG Asian Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, scheduled for June 2026.

In her remarks, Mdm Kho Teck Wan highlighted the importance of the carnival in developing competitive experience for Sarawak gymnasts while welcoming athletes nationwide.

She praised SAGGA’s efforts and pledged continued support for hosting future events at Dewan Sa’ati. MAGGA described the competition as “two electrifying days”, commending the dedication of athletes, coaches and organisers.

Beyond the competition, the carnival underscored Sarawak’s growing role as a sports tourism destination. Visitors were able to experience the region’s cultural and natural heritage, including attractions such as the Borneo Cultures Museum and Sarawak’s ancient rainforests.

SAGGA expressed gratitude to sponsors including MILO Malaysia, Cotra Enterprises, J-Eleven Cleaning Services and RK Nasi Lemak, among others.

Established in 2019, SAGGA continues to champion inclusive grassroots programmes and structured athlete pathways, ensuring that every Anak Sarawak has access to artistic sports development.
