KUCHING: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) has unanimously passed the Supply Bill, 2025, also known as the Sarawak Budget ’25, during its sitting today.

Premier and Minister for Finance and New Economy, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, tabled the RM15.8 billion expansionary budget on November 11. This budget reflects a 16% increase compared to the RM13.6 billion allocated in 2024, aiming to drive economic prosperity, inclusivity, and sustainability.

In his winding-up speech, Abang Johari expressed his administration’s commitment to the people of Sarawak, stating, “We must fulfil this promise. Let us work together, hand in hand, to continue serving the people, uplifting local communities, and shaping a bright future for generations to come.”

Historic Development Allocation

The 2025 State Budget includes a record-high RM10.9 billion for development expenditure, marking it as the largest development budget in Sarawak’s history. The allocation will support infrastructure, healthcare, education, and rural development projects across the state.

Abang Johari explained that RM4.9 billion has been set aside for operating expenses, while RM8.8 billion will be appropriated to the Development Fund Account. This ensures a robust foundation for financing critical projects, boosting the state’s growth.

Surplus to Strengthen Finances

The Budget projects a revenue of RM14.2 billion against an ordinary expenditure of RM13.7 billion, generating an estimated surplus of RM486 million.

With the theme “Together Building a Prosperous Future,” the Budget underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Sarawakians while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

As Sarawak continues its journey towards achieving economic and social aspirations, this Budget is set to stimulate progress and empower communities across the state.
