BETONG – Following his morning visit to the Rural Produce Market, the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, continued their engagement with the local community by having breakfast at the Bumiputera Stall operated by the Betong District Council (MDB) on 14 June.
The Governor and Toh Puan were accompanied by the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Junaidi, along with his wife, Datin Hajah Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Youth Development, Sports and Entrepreneurship Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, with his wife, Datin Rosemarie Wong Lu Yi; Member of Parliament for Betong Dato Dr Richard Rapu @ Aman anak Begri; and Betong Division Resident Datu Richard Michael Abunawas, with his wife, Datin Marilyn Tida.
The breakfast session featured a variety of traditional Sarawak delicacies, including grilled glutinous rice, tapai cake, and cakoi, alongside other local favourites.
The governor and Toh Puan expressed their delight in sampling the dishes, which reflect the culinary heritage of the region.
During the visit, the governor and his wife took time to greet hawkers and members of the public gathered at the MDB multipurpose stall and market.
Their interaction with traders and residents highlighted the importance of community engagement and the role of local markets in sustaining livelihoods.
The Governor and Toh Puan conveyed their prayers for continued prosperity and well-being for the people of the Betong Division.
They emphasised the significance of grassroots economic activities, noting that such markets not only provide income opportunities but also strengthen social bonds within the community.
The breakfast gathering underscored the governor’s commitment to supporting local enterprises and recognising the contributions of small traders to Sarawak’s economy.
By participating in everyday community activities, the state’s leadership demonstrated solidarity with residents and reinforced the value of cultural traditions that remain central to Sarawak’s identity.
The Bumiputera Stall at Betong continues to serve as a hub for local food and commerce, offering a space where residents can share in the richness of Sarawak’s culinary and cultural diversity.
The governor’s visit reaffirmed the state’s dedication to nurturing community spirit and promoting sustainable economic growth at the grassroots level.
