KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, has returned safely to Kuching following a four-day official visit to Brunei Darussalam.
Their arrival at Hornbill Skyways Terminal on 17 July marked the conclusion of a programme that underscored the close ties between Sarawak and Brunei.
The delegation included Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who was accompanied by his wife, Dato Hajah Dayang Morliah binti Datuk Haji Awang Daud. The visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between the two neighbouring regions.
At Brunei International Airport, the Sarawak Governor and his entourage were formally seen off by senior Bruneian officials.
Among those present were Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Md. Yussof, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister of Defence II; Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan; and Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force, Dato Seri Pahlawan Sulaiman bin Aliddin. The farewell ceremony reflected the high regard in which the Sarawak delegation was held.
Before departure, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi was accorded the honour of inspecting the Royal Brunei Guard of Honour, a gesture symbolising the respect and friendship shared between the two nations.
During the visit, the Sarawak Governor and Toh Puan expressed deep gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for the warm hospitality extended throughout their stay.
They described the reception as generous and memorable, highlighting the strong cultural and diplomatic bonds that continue to unite Sarawak and Brunei.
In their closing remarks, the Governor and Toh Puan conveyed prayers for the continued health and prosperity of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Her Majesty the Queen Mother Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, and the Royal Family of Brunei. They emphasised their hopes for Brunei’s enduring stability and well-being under the Sultan’s leadership.
The four-day programme included engagements with Bruneian leaders and cultural exchanges that reinforced the shared heritage of the two regions. Sarawak and Brunei have long-standing historical ties, with both sides committed to fostering cooperation in areas such as trade, education, and cultural diplomacy.
