TYT Sarawak Hosts Family Reunion Dinner at Official Residence

TYT Sarawak Hosts Family Reunion Dinner at Official Residence

KUCHING – His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, graciously hosted a special family reunion dinner at their official residence, Kasuma Resort, this evening.

The event, which began at 6.00 pm, brought together close family members and brothers of Tun Pehin Sri, symbolising unity, heritage, and strong family bonds.

Among those present were YBhg. Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Hamzah bin Syed Paie, Encik Wan Hussin bin Wan Ali, Encik Wan Rajiee Tuanku Esim, Encik Wan Affandi Tuanku Ismail, Encik Wan Zawawi Tuanku Akil, Encik Syed Sahimi Tuanku Bujang@Hassan, Encik Wan Ismail Tuanku Mahlar, Encik Wan Mohamad Wan Yusof, Encik Wan Zain Wan Mustapha, Encik Wan Abdurrahman Tuanku Abu Bakar, Encik Syed Sarkawi Syed Sapawi, Encik Syed Mokhsen Wan Mohamad Affandi, and Encik Syed Muhammad Radzi Wan Abdullah.

The evening began with a congregational Maghrib prayer led by Ustaz Haji Syed Rusydi bin Haji Wan Yusup. Following the prayer, Ustaz Syed Rusydi presented a study on the family’s rich lineage and historical roots, tracing connections from Tanjung Pinang to Pekan Baru in Riau.

A highlight of the presentation was the history of Pulau Daik in the Lingga Islands, which once served as the administrative centre of the Johor-Pahang-Lingga-Riau Sultanate. Pulau Daik was recognised not only as a hub of Islamic knowledge and preaching but also as a stronghold where the Syed family grew in prominence, contributing significantly to governance, religion, and community life.

The study also underlined that the Syed family traces its origins to the descendants of Ahlul Bait, particularly the Al Yahya lineage. The ancestor of Tun Pehin Sri, Sayyid Yassin Al Yahya of Bukit Puteri, Terengganu, through his son Sayyid Jaafar bin Sayyid Yassin, migrated to Selat Panjang before his descendants spread to Riau and eventually to Sarawak.

From Pulau Daik, some family members travelled to Pulau Sedanau and Serasan before settling in Sarawak, carrying with them the legacy of Islamic knowledge and cultural heritage that continues to live on today.

The evening concluded with the Isha’ congregational prayer, followed by a meaningful family dinner, strengthening kinship while honouring historical roots and the values of unity. — TYT Sarawak
