KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, were presented with commemorative portraits during a courtesy visit by the Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mohamad Zainal bin Haji Abdullah, at the Governor’s official residence on 25 February.
The portraits, which depict the Governor and his wife participating in a shooting exercise at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) earlier this month, were handed over as a gesture of respect and appreciation. The training session took place on 16 February and highlighted the Governor’s engagement with law enforcement activities.
Officials described the portraits as meaningful keepsakes, symbolising shared experiences and the strong partnership between the Governor’s office and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The presentation was seen as a reflection of the close ties between the state leadership and the police force, underscoring a commitment to cooperation in safeguarding Sarawak’s communities.
The Governor and his wife expressed gratitude to the Police Commissioner for the thoughtful gift, noting that the gesture reinforced the spirit of collaboration between the Istana and the police. “Your Excellency and YABhg. Toh Puan expressed her deepest appreciation to YDH Datuk Mohamad Zainal for his memory and willingness to present the portrait,” officials confirmed.
The visit also served as an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of maintaining strong institutional relationships. The Governor emphasised that continued cooperation between the state leadership and PDRM is vital in ensuring public safety, social harmony, and the well-being of Sarawak’s people.
Sarawak has long placed emphasis on strengthening ties between government institutions and enforcement agencies. Analysts note that such gestures, though symbolic, carry weight in reinforcing trust and collaboration. The exchange of portraits is consistent with traditions of honouring shared experiences and recognising contributions to public service.
The Royal Malaysia Police plays a central role in maintaining law and order across Sarawak, a state known for its diverse communities and vast geographical landscape. Close coordination between the police and state leadership is considered essential in addressing challenges ranging from rural security to urban safety.
The Governor’s engagement with PULAPOL earlier this month highlighted his active interest in law enforcement training and readiness. Observers suggest that such involvement demonstrates leadership commitment to supporting the police in their mission.
The ceremony concluded with well-wishes for the continued strengthening of ties between the Governor’s office and PDRM, with both sides expressing hope that cooperation will remain steadfast in the years ahead.
